What is the Trading Floor and how does it work? The Trading Floor is a real-time open market where players are bought and sold similar to stocks on the stock market. Buying players on the Trading Floor is the only way to make additions to your team, as there are no trades allowed between managers. Player prices are dictated by supply and demand. If more managers are buying a player, his price goes up. If more managers are selling a player, his price goes down. The NBA Stock Exchange (NBASE) market maker is designed to react to the buying and selling pressures of the market. Gains and losses from buying and selling players don't affect your score, but shrewdly managing your roster is the key to success. To maintain fair play and equity in the game, The NBA Stock Exchange systematically monitors trading activity in the market and may regulate certain factors. When can I start using the Trading Floor to buy and sell players? You can first buy players at a fixed price beginning on October 1st. The Trading Floor "Live" Market will begin on October 21st, a few days before the start of the regular season. What are the trading floor hours? The trading floor will be open every day from 8 AM to 3 AM Eastern Time starting October 21st through the end of the regular season. Is there a limit to the number of trades I can make? No. The beauty of the market system is that the manager is in control and can make as many or as few trades as he or she wants virtually whenever he or she wants. Some managers may want to micro-manage each position and make frequent trades, some may enjoy trading with every up and down tick of the market, while others may maintain a core team and only rotate players in few positions looking at the long-term potential of players. At the NBA Stock Exchange, your trading strategy is up to you. Will there be any transaction costs? After you buy your initial team, a fee in NBASE dollars will be charged every time a player is bought or sold. This fee simulates the commissions, broker fees and other trading costs associated with trading in a real market. The transaction fees are based on your total team value, as your team value goes up so will the fees.
No real money is exchanged, just NBA Stock Exchange funds. Fees are subject to change. Does a player's performance determine his price?A player's performance does not directly affect the player's price. Once a player's price is set for the draft, his price will be determined by supply and demand once the Trading Floor opens. If more managers are buying a player, his price goes up. If more managers are selling a player, his price goes down. Of course, performance statistics should indirectly affect a player's price to the extent that they affect the demand managers have for the player. Real world events like injuries and starting line-up changes may cause player prices to jump or fall rapidly. Why am I unable to buy a player on the Trading Floor? There are a few reasons why you might not be able to purchase a player on the Trading Floor: Why am I unable to sell players on the Trading Floor? There are a few possibilities: Player Waiver Periods: Once a manager buys a player for their team, and starts the player in a game, the manager cannot sell that player until after a 2 day waiver period following the game start. Can I buy and sell two players in one transaction? No. Like a stock exchange, buying and selling are two different transactions independent of each other. If you are concerned about locking in a certain price, you must act quickly. I tried to buy/sell a player for a certain price listed on the Trading Floor, and the confirmation screen showed a different price. Why?Prices are constantly fluctuating based on the transactions of all the managers playing the game. Sometimes the price you see listed on the Trading Floor has changed by the time you click on the buy or sell button. The confirmation screen shows the most updated price. You have approximately 10 seconds to accept the price on the confirmation screen. Is there a separate trading floor for each league? No, all teams participate in the same global trading floor. This ensures that player prices reflect how all managers playing the NBA Stock Exchange view the player's point scoring potential. This is unlike traditional fantasy games where player availability and trade values are based on the opinions and personalities of the managers in your league. If I draft Allen Iverson at 30 NBASE dollars, then sell him on the trading floor at 35 NBASE dollars; did I just add 5 NBASE dollars to my budget?Yes, all else being equal, your team value will now be 185 NBASE dollars (150 from your other players and previous balance plus the 35 from selling A.I.). Of course, the prices for all your players may go up or down depending on the market and the value of your entire team may go up and down as well. Don't forget about the transaction fees which may slightly reduce your team value. Keep in mind that gains and losses from buying and selling players don't affect your score, but shrewdly managing your roster and fielding the best starting players is the key to success. Why are you charging different transaction fees to different teams and giving money to teams with values less than 150? This seems unfair. Our goal is to provide a lively, competitive and fun game for all participants. The sliding scale of transaction fees and team value minimum is a way to keep everyone in the game feeling like they have a chance to win. Think of this as a way to achieve team parity through revenue sharing.
